THE newborn GUIDE

When TO              your newborn

book

Congratulations on your pregnancy! Welcoming a newborn baby into the world is an incredible moment as you have not only meet your precious baby but you have also become a mama and that in itself is something to celebrate.

A newborn photo shoot is a wonderful way to preserve these memories and celebrate your little one’s arrival. However, timing is everything when it comes to scheduling the perfect session. So, when is the best time to book a newborn photo shoot? Here’s a guide to help you plan and ensure your photos turn out just as you envision them.

PLANNING
BOOKING YOUR SESSION

ahead:

To ensure you get the ideal timing for your newborn photo shoot, it’s essential to plan ahead:

book early

Ideally, you should book while you’re still pregnant. Most of my mamas book during their second trimester. This secures a spot in my calendar, and your due date is noted and penciled in to accommodate any potential changes.

keep in touch

As your due date approaches, I will reach out to you if I haven’t heard from you already. Once baby is born we will either keep our pencil date as is or reschedule your shoot within that optimal two-week window.

sleep patterns

Newborns are typically more drowsy and sleep more soundly in their first two weeks. This sleepiness allows them to be easily posed and placed in various positions without disturbing their comfort.

flexibility

During this time, babies are more flexible and can be posed in the adorable curled-up positions that many parents love. As they grow, they become less flexible and may wake more easily, making these early days ideal for capturing those precious moments.

less baby acne

Newborns often have clearer skin within the first two weeks. Although every baby is different, many parents prefer to capture their baby’s complexion before any common newborn skin issues arise.

If possible, I recommend to book your Newborn Photo Shoot within the first two weeks of your baby’s life. This period is often considered the “sweet spot” for several reasons:

hair loss

At around 3-4 weeks some newborn babies lose their hair. Both my children did at 4 weeks, looking like little old men haha so I definitely recommend the first 2 weeks for this reason.

Considerations

Every baby and family situation is unique, so consider these factors:

premature babies

If your baby is born prematurely, I will of course give you all the time you need. Your babies health is the only thing that matters. I recommend to reach out once you’re back home from the hospital and when you and your baby are feeling ready.

health and safety

If your baby has any health concerns or if you’re recovering from a difficult birth, don’t rush. Older newborn babies are delicious. I’m happy to photograph a baby at any age or stage. Yes they will be more awake, and not so curled up but they will be extra chunky and maybe even show off their sweet personality.

Remember, those early days are fleeting, so make the most of them by taking the time to capture the memories with a professional newborn photo shoot.
