I recently had the perfect opportunity to capture a maternity and family session at Waiwhakaiho Beach in New Plymouth, and let me tell you, it was absolutely breathtaking.
The beach was relatively quiet that evening, just a few folks meandering with their dogs, which made for the perfect backdrop. As the sun began to set, the sky turned into a stunning palette of oranges, pinks, and purples, all reflecting off the gentle waves. It felt like nature was putting on a show just for us! I remember the family’s excitement—big smiles and laughter as they enjoyed the moment together. The soon-to-be parents were glowing, and you could just feel the joy radiating from them. It’s such an incredible experience to witness the anticipation of a new life being welcomed into the family. That genuine happiness is what makes capturing these moments so fulfilling.
One of my favorite parts of the session was when I asked them to walk along the shoreline, hand in hand, with their little one splashing in the water. The combination of the cool sea breeze and warm sunset light created the most beautiful candid moments. They were so caught up in their little world, and it felt like I was just lucky enough to be a fly on the wall, capturing those genuine interactions.
As the waves rolled in, I could see the sparkle in the parents’ eyes. It’s a reminder of how quickly time passes and how important it is to treasure these phases of life. Whether it’s the fleeting moments during pregnancy or the joy of family bonding, it’s all about those little snippets of happiness that become such cherished memories. I absolutely can’t wait to see this family grow and hope they can look back at these images one day and remember the love and excitement they felt that evening by the beach. It’s experiences like this that fuel the passion for capturing life’s beautiful journey.
